About Wicomico Behavioral Health
Wicomico Behavioral Health is the addiction services program of the Wicomico County Health Department in Salisbury, Maryland, offering public outpatient treatment for substance use and opioid addiction. Their care follows ASAM placement criteria and ranges from standard Level I outpatient, which runs at least 26 weeks at under nine hours a week, to an intensive outpatient program of nine or more hours weekly that tapers as people progress. They also provide medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder. New clients are seen through first-come, first-served walk-in intakes on weekday mornings, and the program accepts Maryland Medical Assistance, most state MCO plans, and some BlueCross BlueShield plans, with help applying for coverage for those without insurance.
The medication program includes methadone maintenance, Suboxone, and buprenorphine options such as Brixadi injections. Teens ages 12 to 17 can join a weekly one-hour outpatient group for up to 26 weeks, with family support and education included, and referrals usually come from schools or the Department of Juvenile Justice. Adults can also receive integrated mental health care through a dual diagnosis track for county residents enrolled in addiction treatment, while the intensive outpatient program offers both daytime and evening groups. The department also screens and treats Circuit Court Drug Court participants, runs group and individual counseling plus weekly AA and NA meetings for men and women at the county detention center, and provides case management to help clients overcome barriers to completing treatment.
