Western Tidewater Community Services Board (WTCSB) is a public behavioral health agency based in Suffolk, Virginia, serving Suffolk, Franklin, Isle of Wight County, and Southampton County. They take a recovery-oriented, wrap-around approach to care, bringing mental health, intellectual and developmental disability, and substance use services under one roof, with telehealth available alongside their service centers. New clients can walk in during open access hours for a same-day clinical assessment, which cuts down the wait to begin care. For substance use, they offer individual and group counseling that addresses addiction and mental health together, case management, a youth intensive outpatient program, and State Opioid Response services.
Their Youth Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program serves teens and pre-teens ages 12 to 18 from across the Hampton Roads region, meeting three days a week for three hours at a time over 12 weeks, with a family night once a month. Participants receive a biopsychosocial assessment, a person-centered treatment plan, individual, family, and group therapy, evidence-based strategies, psychoeducation, care coordination, and peer support, all aimed at building relapse-prevention skills and stronger family involvement. Adults with co-occurring substance use and serious mental illness, including those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, may qualify for their Program for Assertive Community Treatment, which provides daily community-based support. They also offer psychiatric medication evaluation and management, case management to connect people with medical, vocational, and social supports, and a peer support and outreach program for veterans.
