About Wayside Recovery Center

Wayside Recovery Center is a Twin Cities treatment organization for women ages 18 and older, offering gender-specific, trauma-informed care for substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. They began in 1954, when Sally DeVay opened a sober housing shelter for women in downtown Minneapolis, and they still focus on breaking the cycle of addiction and trauma across generations of women, children, and families. Their care is LGBTQ+ friendly, can include medication-assisted treatment, and spans residential treatment, intensive outpatient programming, outpatient mental health therapy, and long-term supportive housing.

What sets Wayside apart is their Family Treatment Center, which lets pregnant women and mothers keep their children with them during residential care, with stays typically lasting 90 to 120 days and including parenting education alongside addiction treatment. Women who need residential care without their children in residence can attend the Women’s Treatment Center in St. Louis Park, a 41-bed program built for co-occurring disorders where children are welcome to visit. For those living at home, the intensive outpatient options include an evening telehealth program and an in-person program in St. Paul, both combining group and individual therapy with peer recovery specialists and parenting support, while separate outpatient therapy is available for individuals, couples, families, and children. After treatment, women can move into one of 20 sober living units, most reserved for mothers with young children, where case managers help with relapse prevention, financial literacy, and employment readiness.
