About Volunteers of America OHIN
Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana is a faith-based nonprofit human services organization, and in Evansville, Indiana, they run Fresh Start Recovery Center – Evansville, a family-focused residential program for substance use disorder. Their behavioral health work combines evidence-based addiction and mental health treatment, with residential and outpatient programming offered across the organization. All clinical staff, including licensed clinicians, are trained in trauma-informed care, which matters for people whose substance use is tied to painful past experiences. Their outlook is simple: recovery is possible for every person, family, and community.
The Fresh Start model is built for pregnant women and mothers with young children, so women can get residential care without being cut off from their kids. The program is delivered through a partnership with Humana. Across Indiana, they also offer home-like supportive recovery housing for women and their children through their Legacy House residences, which can help families move from treatment to stable living. In Evansville, they also serve low-income veterans who are homeless or at risk of losing housing through Supportive Services for Veteran Families.
