About Volunteers of America

Volunteers of America Northern Rockies is a faith-based nonprofit headquartered in Sheridan, Wyoming, that runs addiction treatment, mental health, veteran, and housing services across Wyoming, Montana, and western South Dakota. Their CARF-accredited addiction program offers a continuum of care that includes assessment, outpatient services, social detox (available in Sheridan, Cheyenne, and Riverton), and residential treatment. The residential campus has separate options for men, women, and women with young children. Treatment is built around Alcoholics Anonymous principles and a holistic focus on the whole person, so it suits people who are ready to change their relationship with alcohol or drugs.

Alongside standard treatment, clients can use medication-assisted treatment, Native American Cultural Enhancement backed by White Bison certification, or a Christian Enhancement track for faith-based support. Outpatient counseling and psychiatric care run through clinics in several Wyoming towns, including Sheridan, and cover group therapy, psychosocial rehabilitation for serious mental illness, family therapy for parents and children, and staff trained in youth and older-adult care. Residential admission requires a recent ASI-ASAM assessment, a physical with a medication list, a TB screening, a personal letter about your motivation, and any relevant legal paperwork. Waits can range from about a week to two months depending on bed availability, and outpatient services accept private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, and a sliding fee scale.
