About Volunteer Behavioral Health

Volunteer Behavioral Health is a nonprofit, CARF-accredited community behavioral health organization with an outpatient presence in Lafayette, Tennessee, and a network serving dozens of counties across Middle, Southeast, and Upper Cumberland Tennessee. For more than 60 years they have treated adults, children, and families living with mental illness, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions. Their No Wrong Door/Same Day Access model aims to connect people with services within 24 hours of calling intake. Across the organization, addiction care includes outpatient counseling, medication management, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), intensive outpatient programming, peer support, and medically monitored detox, with residential treatment planned for their Cookeville campus.

Outpatient care begins with an assessment that shapes an individualized plan, which may combine individual, family, and group therapy with care management and medication support, and family involvement is actively encouraged. Their group-based IOP meets at least three hours a day, three days a week, and includes ongoing aftercare, while 24/7 medical detox is available at the Cookeville and Murfreesboro campuses for both men and women. The Women’s CHOICES Program serves mothers with substance use and mental health needs through IOP groups, certified peer support, parenting classes, intensive care management, and transportation, and specialty programs support people involved with probation, parole, or multiple DUIs. Between sessions, clients can turn to a network of peer support centers and FindingMyRecovery.org, an online community with recovery-coach-monitored chat rooms and meetings.
