About Volunteer Behavioral Health

Volunteer Behavioral Health is a nonprofit, CARF-accredited community behavioral health organization with a campus in Cookeville, Tennessee, part of a network serving more than 50 counties across Middle, Southeast, and Upper Cumberland Tennessee. For over 60 years they have treated adults, children, and families living with mental illness, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions. Their No Wrong Door/Same Day Access model aims to connect people with services within 24 hours of calling intake. Care for addiction includes a 24/7 medically monitored detox program with 24 beds for men and women in Cookeville, along with outpatient counseling, medication management, medication-assisted treatment, intensive outpatient programming, and peer support, with residential treatment planned for the Cookeville location.

Outpatient care begins with an evaluation that shapes an individualized plan combining individual, family, or group therapy with care management and medication support, and family involvement is actively encouraged. The intensive outpatient program meets in groups for at least three hours a day, three days a week, and includes aftercare to support people once the structured phase ends. Mothers in Cookeville can join the Women’s CHOICES Program, which pairs intensive outpatient group therapy with certified peer support, intensive care management, nurturing parenting classes, drug testing, family support, and transportation to appointments. They also run court- and probation-referred programs for people involved with the justice system or facing multiple DUIs, a local peer support center called Friends & Company, and FindingMyRecovery.org, an online community with recovery-coach-led chat rooms and meetings.
