About Volunteer Behavioral Health

Volunteer Behavioral Health is a nonprofit, CARF-accredited community behavioral health organization serving McMinnville, Tennessee, as part of a network of 21 outpatient centers covering more than 50 counties in Middle, Southeast, and Upper Cumberland Tennessee. For over 60 years, they have treated adults, children, and families dealing with mental illness, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions. Their same-day access model aims to connect people with services within 24 hours of calling intake. Outpatient counseling is offered at every location, and the broader system also provides intensive outpatient programming, medication management, medication-assisted treatment, peer support, and 24/7 medically monitored detox at their Cookeville and Murfreesboro campuses, with residential treatment planned for Cookeville.

Care begins with an evaluation that shapes an individualized plan, which may combine individual, family, and group therapy with care management and medication support, and family members are encouraged to take part. Their intensive outpatient program meets in groups at least three hours a day, three days a week, and includes aftercare to support people once the program ends. Mothers can turn to the Women’s CHOICES Program at the Chattanooga and Cookeville campuses, which pairs intensive outpatient groups with parenting classes, certified peer support, and transportation. Locally, Harmony House in McMinnville offers peer-to-peer support, while FindingMyRecovery.org provides coach-moderated online chat rooms and recovery meetings, and specialty programs serve people referred through probation, parole, or the courts.
