About VOA Addiction Recovery Services

VOA Addiction Recovery Services in Louisville, Kentucky, is the substance use recovery branch of Volunteers of America Mid-States, a nonprofit human services organization and interdenominational Christian ministry that has worked in Kentucky since 1896. They serve men and women with substance use disorders, including pregnant and parenting mothers and men returning from incarceration, through evidence-based clinical care from licensed treatment professionals. Their best-known program, Freedom House, opened in Louisville in 1993 and offers residential treatment for women who are pregnant or have children and are struggling with alcohol or drug dependence. Its goals are to support healthy births, reunite families, and stop substance use from passing to the next generation, and its facilities hold Council on Accreditation accreditation.

After residential care, mothers with young children can move into the Women’s Transitional Living Program, a sober home for up to seven families. Families can stay for up to two years and pay an income-based fee, which leaves room to work, save, or return to school. For parents involved with the child welfare system, the Family Recovery Court Program in eligible Kentucky counties and the Family Connections Program, run with the Department for Community Based Services, offer early intervention to keep children safely at home. Their Recovery Community Centers in several counties provide peer recovery support, education, and a welcoming place for people in recovery and their loved ones to connect.
