About Utah Harm Reduction Coalition
Utah Harm Reduction Coalition is a nonprofit, community-based organization in Midvale, Utah, that pairs outpatient substance use treatment with a broader set of public health and harm reduction services. They view substance misuse as a sign of other struggles in a person’s life, and they treat each client as the one in charge of their own change, free to define what recovery looks like for them. They accept every pathway to recovery, and the only thing they ask of someone entering treatment is a wish to make a change. Founder and Executive Director Mindy Vincent, a licensed clinical social worker, launched Utah’s first legal syringe exchange.
Alongside outpatient treatment, they offer medication-assisted treatment, HIV and hepatitis C testing with connections to follow-up care, and help enrolling in Medicaid and TAM. Their syringe exchange provides sterile injection supplies and safe disposal, overdose prevention and safer-use education, and prevention tools such as counseling, condoms, and vaccinations. They also refer people to medical, mental health, and social services they don’t provide directly. Treatment hours run Monday through Thursday into the evening, and they accept several insurance plans, including SelectHealth, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and University of Utah Health.
