Utah Family Institute is an outpatient therapy and psychological assessment practice in American Fork, Utah, that has worked with children, teens, adults, and families since 1997. They are licensed by the State of Utah to provide outpatient substance abuse treatment for adolescents and adults, which usually means one individual therapy session per week shaped around the person’s needs. Alongside addiction care, their clinicians help with anxiety, depression, trauma, family conflict, relationship strain, and behavioral struggles, often through a family-centered lens. They also conduct substance abuse evaluations based on American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria, including court-ordered assessments, to help determine the right level of treatment.

Several clinicians are certified in Functional Family Therapy, a family-based model that works on communication, parenting skills, and problem-solving to reduce conflict and substance use within the household. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a core specialty for young people, and individual clinicians also draw on Family Systems Therapy, DBT, Gestalt, and the ARC framework for complex trauma. The team developed Breaking Free, a 12-session cognitive-behavioral program for problematic pornography use with a spiritual component, offered individually or in groups. Group options cover topics such as addiction, anger, and trauma, two parenting classes are available for parents of younger children and teens, and one therapist is fluent in Spanish and works closely with Hispanic families.
