About Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake

Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake is a nonprofit Urban Indian Organization in Salt Lake City that has served American Indian and Alaska Native families along the Wasatch Front for more than 50 years. Their care is rooted in Native culture and community, and they work with tribal members from Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, and Tooele counties, as well as relatives from neighboring states with few urban Indian services. Within their behavioral health program, they offer substance use disorder counseling alongside clinical therapy, case management, and help navigating social services for people working on recovery and mental health. They serve people regardless of income or insurance, including those experiencing chronic homelessness and members of the LGBTQIA and Two Spirit community.

Recovery support connects with a full medical clinic, so patients can see psychiatric providers, receive primary care, get lab work done, and pick up prescriptions at an on-site pharmacy without being sent elsewhere. Roughly 70% of their staff are enrolled members of the tribal nations they serve, which helps keep traditional knowledge and practices woven into everyday care. Beyond clinical services, they host cultural and community programming such as Diné Bizaad language classes, a garden club, and a summer teen program, offering a sense of belonging that can strengthen long-term recovery. Services are spread across sites in Salt Lake City, Murray, and West Valley City.
