About University of Maryland Medical Center

The University of Maryland Medical Center’s UM Addiction Treatment Center in Baltimore, Maryland, is a hospital-based outpatient program for adults struggling with alcohol and drug addiction, including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription pain pills. They approach addiction as a treatable medical condition and offer partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and standard outpatient care, along with medication-assisted treatment using methadone, buprenorphine (Suboxone and Sublocade), and naltrexone (Vivitrol). When withdrawal management is needed, their specialists coordinate detox with UMMC’s Midtown campus and can stabilize people with opioid addiction on medication on-site. Both self-referrals and provider referrals are accepted, intake is available without an appointment on weekday mornings, and financial assistance is offered.

Care is organized into three programs that work closely together. The Drug Treatment Center is an opioid treatment program offering daytime methadone and Suboxone services, and it serves as West Baltimore’s designated hub in the city’s hub-and-spoke network, with a Health Home that connects patients to hepatitis C treatment, immunizations, and primary care. The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program provides intensive and traditional outpatient treatment, either medication-free or with monthly injectable medications, and includes counseling, case management, and discharge planning. Deaf Addiction Services at Maryland serves Deaf and hard-of-hearing people statewide with ASL-fluent staff, dual-diagnosis care, interpreted NA and AA meetings, DUI education, and housing and employment help, and they see clients regardless of insurance or ability to pay. Peer recovery specialists, on-site infectious disease care, a drop-in center for recovery resources, and optional research participation round out the program.
