About University Behavioral Center
University Behavioral Center is a psychiatric hospital and substance use treatment facility on a secure 14-acre campus in Orlando, Florida, serving adolescents, adults, and military members and their families. Founded in 1989 and part of Universal Health Services, they focus heavily on dual diagnosis, treating addiction alongside conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and psychosis. For adults, care includes medically monitored inpatient detox, acute inpatient psychiatric stabilization with same-day and Baker Act admissions, and outpatient partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs. Their detox program addresses dependence on alcohol, benzodiazepines, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, opioids, and other substances, with doctors and nurses available around the clock to manage withdrawal.
Because the detox unit is connected to the psychiatric unit, people with co-occurring disorders can move between services without a gap in care. Inpatient treatment plans draw on individual, group, and family therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-focused work, medication support, and art and music therapy. Through their Branches outpatient service, adults can attend PHP five to six hours a day on weekdays, with weekly family sessions, or step down to IOP three to four days a week, focusing on relapse prevention, mindfulness, and coping skills. They also run a TRICARE-approved program for active-duty service members, veterans, and military families, and they help coordinate transitions to residential or outpatient care elsewhere in their Central Florida network.
