About Ujima Family Recovery Services

Ujima Family Recovery Services is a family-centered addiction treatment organization based in San Pablo, California, serving families across Contra Costa, Solano, and Napa counties since 1986. They opened Contra Costa County’s first residential program built specifically for pregnant and parenting adults, so parents could get help without being separated from their children. In San Pablo, they run The Rectory, a 24-hour, family-style residential program where pregnant and parenting women ages 18 to 64 can live with their children up to age 12 while receiving housing support. Their wider network includes a second residential home in Martinez for mothers with children up to age 5, along with outpatient programs of up to 180 days in Concord, Pittsburg, Richmond, and Vallejo for mothers and fathers.

Care is trauma-informed and combines substance use and mental health treatment through individual, group, and family counseling, relapse prevention, 12-step support, and alcohol and drug education. Because addiction often comes with other challenges, they also provide parenting education, pregnancy support, life skills, domestic violence education, family reunification help, and case coordination for housing and transportation, followed by alumni activities and transitional support after treatment. Children get their own support through the KIDS GROUP afterschool program for ages 5 to 16, which offers counseling, age-appropriate groups, and field trips, while play therapy is available for children up to age 5. All services are covered by Medi-Cal, and families also have free transportation, free on-site childcare at most locations, and Spanish-speaking counselors at every program.
