About Turning Point Clinic

Turning Point Clinic is a walk-in opioid treatment program in East Baltimore, Maryland, founded in 2003 by Rev. Milton Emanuel Williams, Jr. and members of New Life Evangelical Baptist Church. They focus on heroin and other opioid use disorders, offering methadone and Suboxone treatment alongside counseling and mental health care, with the goal of helping people build a life free of drugs and crime. Treating around 2,500 patients a day, they are among the largest opioid treatment clinics anywhere, and they welcome anyone who comes in without requiring an appointment.

A defining feature is their Open Access model, launched in 2011, which cuts the wait for admission from weeks to less than a day so people in withdrawal can start medication quickly. Counselors can refer patients to an in-house Mental Health Unit, where specialists address co-occurring conditions and prescribe medication when needed. Beyond clinical care, they offer optional spiritual counseling, crime avoidance services, and a food pantry, and fees are set on a sliding scale. They are also working toward a broader health campus that would coordinate primary, urgent, and mental health care with daily methadone dosing.
