About Thresholds

Thresholds is a large Chicago-based behavioral health nonprofit, and their Substance Use Treatment Program offers outpatient and intensive outpatient care for adults working to change their relationship with alcohol or drugs. Their philosophy centers on meeting people where they are, treating clients as the experts on their own lives, and setting goals together without judgment or pressure. Because care is community-based, people can keep living at home and stay connected to work and family while in treatment. They accept clients regardless of ability to pay, take Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance, and offer discounted fees for those who qualify.

Everyone begins with an admission assessment, followed by a treatment plan built around their own needs and preferences. Intensive outpatient involves at least nine hours of services a week, usually for two to eight weeks, before stepping down to standard outpatient care at up to eight and a half hours weekly. Services include individual and group therapy, recovery coaching, case management, family and couples counseling, medication-assisted treatment, and DUI evaluation and education, with co-occurring mental health conditions treated alongside substance use. Their whole-person approach covers sleep, diet, and stress management, skills like craving management and drug refusal, and connections to SMART Recovery and twelve-step groups, along with a free recovery app.
