About The Well
The Well is a behavioral health organization serving Northeast Nebraska, offering care for adults living with substance use, mental health, or co-occurring disorders, with their residential programs based in Norfolk. Their approach is trauma-responsive and person-centered, treating each client as the expert in their own recovery and adapting care to medical, psychological, cultural, spiritual, family, and financial needs. Services span residential treatment, outpatient counseling and medication management, and supportive housing with up to 12 weeks of transitional living or a permanent option. Crisis care navigators are also available around the clock to connect people with support, and a Spanish-language version of their information is offered.
Their residential options include a Dual Disorder program for adults with a substance use disorder and a serious, persistent mental illness, an Intermediate Residential program for those whose mental health is already well managed, and short-term mental health crisis respite. The Dual Disorder track runs about four to six months with 42 hours of structured programming each week, separate men’s and women’s settings, and a team that includes a dually licensed counselor, a psychiatric medication provider, a registered nurse, a case manager, a certified peer support specialist, and a recovery coach. Their Mommy & Me program lets pregnant women and parents of young children stay in treatment for up to 12 months in a therapeutic residential setting. For families, they provide play therapy for children up to age 12 and sandtray therapy for both children and adults to help process trauma, anxiety, and difficult emotions.
