About Terrace House
Terrace House is the Buffalo, New York, campus of Horizon Village, the branch of the nonprofit Horizon Health Services that runs their withdrawal management and residential addiction programs. At Terrace House, they provide inpatient detox and crisis stabilization for people dealing with substance use disorders, including those with co-occurring mental health concerns. Their inpatient care looks at the whole person, addressing medical, psychological, spiritual, social, and environmental needs rather than physical withdrawal alone. Horizon has served Western New York since 1975 and is one of the region’s largest providers of outpatient mental health and addiction treatment.
Because Terrace House is part of a larger network, people leaving detox can continue care in Horizon’s residential programs at the Sanborn campus or in outpatient services at more than 20 locations across Erie, Niagara, and Genesee Counties. Horizon’s medical providers use medications such as buprenorphine, Vivitrol, and Sublocade to help manage cravings and withdrawal, and their outpatient counseling draws on cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, EMDR, and motivational interviewing. Peer advocates with lived experience work directly with patients, while a dedicated Family Support Team and family peer advocates help loved ones navigate treatment. Erie and Niagara County residents in OASAS-licensed care can also use free vocational services for career exploration, resume writing, job searches, and job retention.
