About Sun Street Centers

Sun Street Centers is a nonprofit alcohol and drug treatment provider based in Salinas, California, serving individuals and families across Monterey County and the Central Coast regardless of income. Since 1968, they have worked from a social model of recovery developed by founders Martin and Nancy Dodd, centering peer support and community in building an alcohol-free and drug-free life. Their services cover prevention and education, DUI programs, assessments, outpatient counseling, residential treatment, and recovery housing. They see recovery as an ongoing process rather than a cure, so ongoing support after formal treatment is a core part of what they offer.

Residential programs run around the clock, with a men’s program in Salinas, a women’s residential and perinatal program in Hollister, men’s and women’s programs in King City, and a men’s program in San Luis Obispo. Outpatient counseling is available for women, men, and teens in Salinas, Marina, Seaside, and King City, and a Family Empowerment Program helps relatives of people struggling with substance use care for themselves. After treatment, men can live in self-supporting shared sober apartments, Hope Housing in Marina provides bridge housing for people facing substance use and mental health challenges, and alumni programs help clients stay connected. They hold CARF accreditation and are preparing to open an adolescent residential treatment program, the first of its kind in Monterey County.
