About Streetwise Inc

Streetwise Inc is a nonprofit behavioral health agency in Albuquerque, New Mexico, serving people across the metro area. They were founded in 2002 to help young people struggling with substance use and have since grown into a broader social and mental health provider. Their work centers on recovery and resilience, built around encouragement, education, and empowerment. Services are community-based and outpatient, covering substance use alongside mental health, family, and behavioral concerns.

Care typically begins with a clinical assessment that looks at psychiatric diagnosis, medication needs, substance use, case management needs, and the right level of care, followed by referrals for appropriate follow-up. Their counseling options include individual, family, couples, and group sessions, which can address substance use, domestic violence, relationship struggles, parenting, and symptom stabilization. For children, teens, and young adults up to age 21, their Behavior Management Skills program provides structured support at home, in the community, or at school, with the goal of avoiding hospitalization or out-of-home placement or helping a young person transition back afterward. Pre-assessment questionnaires are available in both English and Spanish, and school-based services in Albuquerque Public Schools are limited to students in regular education with the principal’s approval.
