About Stepping Stones Inc

Stepping Stones is a nonprofit addiction treatment provider in Joliet, Illinois, that has been helping adults recover from alcohol and drug use for about 50 years. They treat substance use disorders alongside co-occurring mental health needs, using an evidence-based, medically informed approach that emphasizes healing without judgment. Their continuum of care spans intensive residential treatment, extended residential care, recovery homes, standard outpatient, and intensive outpatient programming. Families and other loved ones are also welcome to take part in support services.

Their intensive residential program offers a highly structured setting with 24-hour monitoring, where adults usually stay 14 to 21 days to stop using, stabilize, and build early recovery skills through group therapy, individual sessions, peer support, and case management. After that, extended residential care provides separate units for men and women and focuses on building responsibility, self-esteem, and a productive, goal-driven daily life, while recovery homes offer substance-free housing with structure and peer-led support groups. Outpatient clients can choose up to eight hours a week or an intensive track of nine or more hours, with day and evening groups built around a person-centered curriculum and supplemented by individual counseling. Case managers make a point of bringing families into treatment through family groups and sessions, so loved ones can understand and support the changes being made.
