Stephens Outreach Center is a community-based behavioral health agency in Lumberton, North Carolina, offering substance use, mental health, and behavioral health services for both adults and children. They were started to help young people facing co-occurring mental health and substance use problems, and they have since expanded to support adults and families who need steady, positive support systems. Their addiction care is outpatient-based and includes Substance Abuse Comprehensive Outpatient Treatment (SACOT), a Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (SAIOP) for adolescents and adults, and regular outpatient therapy. They also provide opioid treatment with Suboxone, which pairs medication with counseling and behavioral therapies.

Care usually begins with a diagnostic and comprehensive clinical assessment, and from there people may receive individual, family, or group therapy, psychiatric medication management, and trauma, grief, and relationship counseling. Adults with substance use or mental health disorders can join peer support activities, and those with more complex, long-term needs can receive help from a Community Support Team. For children and teens, they offer Intensive In-Home services and targeted case management, and they also serve as a Tailored Care Management agency that coordinates medical, behavioral, and community resources for Medicaid recipients. Because most of their services are delivered in the community, staff will travel to clients who lack transportation, and they also offer telehealth, Spanish translation, and coverage through Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, Eastpointe, state funds for the uninsured, and self-pay.
