About Spindletop Center

Spindletop Center is a nonprofit behavioral health organization serving Port Arthur and the surrounding Southeast Texas region. Alongside mental health care, crisis services, and support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, they run outpatient substance use disorder treatment aimed at helping community members reach lasting recovery. Their approach is person-centered and trauma-informed, and they use evidence-based methods to help each person work toward their own recovery goals and a better quality of life. Their outpatient programs are licensed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

Treatment combines individual, group, and family counseling with relapse prevention, education, support groups, and aftercare once the core program ends. Their Unity Treatment Center offers separate tracks for adults, females, and youth, so younger clients and women can get care in a setting suited to them. The Willie Carter Outreach Center handles outreach, screening, assessment, and referral, which can be a practical first step for someone unsure what kind of help they need. Cost doesn’t have to be a barrier, because they offer a sliding fee scale based on family size and income and will not turn anyone away for inability to pay.
