About Spence Counseling Center
Spence Counseling Center is a Christian counseling practice based in Omaha, Nebraska, with additional offices in Fremont, Gretna, Council Bluffs, Red Oak, and Lawrence, Kansas. Carl Spence, a former pastor of 25 years, founded the practice in 1991, and they continue to blend Biblical principles with clinical therapy. Their counselors work with substance, alcohol, sexual, and gambling addictions, along with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and marriage and family concerns. Care is outpatient and includes individual counseling, couples and family therapy, therapist-led groups, mental health assessments, psychiatric medication management, and telehealth sessions.
Gambling addiction has been a focus since around 2000, and several clinicians hold gambling counselor certifications, while a provisionally licensed alcohol and drug counselor is also on the team. They also run group programs for anger management and for domestic violence offenders. Therapists draw on approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, emotion-focused therapy, play therapy, and family systems work, often through a trauma-informed lens. With more than 20 therapists, along with nutrition services and a certified therapy dog, they can match clients of all ages with a counselor suited to their needs.
