About Southern Iowa Economic Dev Association
Southern Iowa Economic Development Association, known as Sieda Community Action, is a private nonprofit community action agency that serves Bloomfield and Davis County as part of a seven-county core region in southeastern Iowa. For more than 60 years, they have worked to address the causes and conditions of poverty, and their CARF-accredited Behavioral Health and Treatment Services division supports people recovering from substance use disorders, mental health concerns, and problem gambling. Their behavioral health offerings include integrated alcohol and drug and mental health services, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and mental health counseling.
Their problem gambling program provides crisis counseling, assessments to gauge the scope of the problem, and counseling for individuals, couples, and families. It is aimed at people who are betting larger amounts or more often, or who keep gambling to win back losses, and Iowa residents can access it on a sliding fee scale, with Medicaid and other insurance accepted. Through their adult services, they also offer substance use prevention and education, a 12-hour OWI class, and adult and family drug court programs. Because Sieda also runs energy assistance, weatherization, Head Start, and family self-sufficiency programs, families in recovery may be able to connect with practical support through the same agency.
