About Southern Highlands CMHC Inc

Southern Highlands Community Mental Health Center is a community behavioral health center in Princeton, West Virginia, that has served Mercer, McDowell, and Wyoming counties since 1968. They are CCBHC certified and CARF accredited, and they treat opioid, alcohol, stimulant, prescription drug, and polysubstance use, along with co-occurring mental health conditions. Their continuum of care runs from 24-hour crisis stabilization with medically supervised detox for alcohol, opioids, and benzodiazepines to long-term residential treatment and outpatient counseling. They accept Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance, and no one is turned away because they can’t pay.

For opioid use disorder, they offer office-based medication-assisted treatment with Suboxone, with Vivitrol also listed, paired with required counseling and peer support. Same-day induction may be possible. Their residential programs, LEGENDS, WAVES, and INSPIRES, provide round-the-clock staff support and life skills training. Outpatient clients receive individual and group counseling, case management, relapse prevention, and medication management, and the center also runs a six-week court-approved DUI Safety course for people seeking license reinstatement. Integrated psychiatric and primary care, trauma-focused therapies such as CBT and EMDR, transportation help, and services for veterans and young people round out their support for clients and families.
