About Sonora Outpatient Services
Sonora Outpatient Services is the outpatient arm of Sonora Behavioral Health Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, offering partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) care for adolescents and adults dealing with addiction, mental health conditions, or both. Their programs are built for people who need more structure than weekly therapy but not round-the-clock supervision, whether they are stepping down after a hospital stay or starting treatment for the first time. Care is organized into chemical dependency, mental health, and co-occurring tracks, each offered at both the PHP and IOP levels. Participants live at home during treatment and need a safe, supportive environment there.
The adult PHP meets Monday through Friday for six hours a day, usually for about three weeks, and includes weekly psychiatrist visits, nurse-led education on medication and self-care, and breakout groups for those struggling with alcohol or drugs. Their chemical dependence IOP meets three days a week for three hours over 12 weeks, using structured groups based on the Matrix, Hazelden, and Transtheoretical models to build relapse prevention skills, healthier routines, and strong support networks. Skills work throughout draws on cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy, with substance use groups that also include psychoeducation and family education. Specialized IOPs serve teens ages 12 to 17, trauma survivors, people with co-occurring disorders, and those with eating disorders, the last of which adds meal support and real-world outings like grocery shopping.
