About SMA Healthcare

SMA Healthcare is a behavioral health provider serving Ocala and the rest of Marion County, along with five other Florida counties, and has been treating addiction, mental illness, and co-occurring disorders for more than six decades. Their network spans crisis services, residential care, outpatient treatment, primary care, and walk-in screenings, although the specific services offered differ from one location to the next. They are CARF accredited, accept Medicaid and other insurance for many programs, and use a sliding fee scale so that no one is turned away for inability to pay.

Adults 18 and older can enter outpatient substance use therapy voluntarily or under a court order, starting with an assessment and an individualized plan that combines individual and group sessions and encourages family involvement. The adolescent outpatient program centers on repairing family relationships, reducing impulsivity, and building the social and life skills that help teens stay substance-free. Beyond standard therapy, their services include medication-assisted treatment, psychiatric medication management, treatment courts, and Florida Assertive Community Treatment teams that offer round-the-clock support for people with severe mental illness. Parents involved with the child welfare system can receive in-home family intensive treatment, and a lighter version of this program, FITT Lite, is available to families in Marion County.
