About Sitike Counseling Center

Sitike Counseling Center is a community-based counseling agency in South San Francisco, California, that has offered outpatient substance use treatment for adults since 1988. Their name comes from an Apache word for a group of non-related people who come to the aid of someone in crisis, which reflects their focus on culturally responsive care that treats addiction, mental health, and violence as closely linked problems. Their core program, Discover Recovery, is an outpatient alcohol and drug treatment track that builds mental health support into the recovery work. Medi-Cal is accepted, fees are offered on a sliding scale, self-referrals are welcome, and services are available to all genders in both English and Spanish.

Their counselors draw on harm reduction, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, relapse prevention, and WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Planning). New clients can start with an alcohol and drug assessment based on the ASAM Criteria, which weighs a person’s strengths and support system alongside their challenges to recommend the right level of care. Sitike also serves many people involved with the courts, offering state-licensed First Offender and Multiple Offender DUI programs, Deferred Entry of Judgment education and counseling, and individualized or random drug and alcohol testing. For those working through anger or abusive behavior, their Break the Cycle program runs for 16 or 52 weeks, and the longer version meets California Penal Code 1203.097 requirements.
