About Siouxland Mental Health Center
Siouxland Mental Health Center is a nonprofit community mental health center in Sioux City, Iowa, that has served the region since 1969. They evaluate and treat children, teens, and adults dealing with mental illness, emotional distress, and overwhelming life circumstances, and they serve people regardless of ability to pay, with a long-standing focus on low-income, uninsured, and underserved residents. Their care is outpatient and community-based, including therapy, psychiatric services, psychiatric urgent care, and a 24/7 walk-in crisis center that offers stabilization and connection to ongoing support. They accept Medicaid from Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota along with most commercial insurance, and they place therapists in several local and rural school districts.
For adults, they offer individual, couples, and group therapy using CBT, DBT, EMDR, and trauma-informed methods, with same-day access, a first-episode psychosis program, sex therapy, and on-site lab and pharmacy services. Community-based services help adults with mental illness build daily living skills and live independently, while the Friendship House provides a social setting outside of treatment where people can connect and problem-solve with peers and staff. Children and adolescents ages 2 to 18 can receive psychological testing, help with IEP and 504 plans, family therapy, and in-home Behavioral Health Intervention Services focused on emotional regulation and behavior. Their dedicated child and adolescent center includes spaces for play therapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, virtual reality therapy, art therapy, sports therapy, and eco therapy.
