About Shepherds Shelter/Ross Rehab

Shepherd’s Shelter/Ross Rehab is a faith-based, nonprofit substance abuse treatment program for adult men in Mount Sterling, Kentucky, housed in a 54-bed residential facility surrounded by farmland. Pastor Wayne Ross started the work in 1999 with a homeless shelter in Lexington, drawing on his own past with homelessness and drug use, and later moved it to a converted nursing home in Mount Sterling. They treat alcohol and drug addiction and related disorders, including co-occurring mental health conditions, with a spiritual and holistic approach that blends Christian faith with clinical care. The program is CARF accredited and licensed, operates without state funding, and accepts both self-pay clients and those hoping to use health insurance.

Treatment centers on structured classroom sessions using the Recovery Dynamics 12-step curriculum and Hazelden’s Living in Balance program, with plans tailored to each man’s strengths and specific struggles. Clients build life management skills, coping strategies, and peer support meant to lower relapse risk and help them function better with family and in the community. Men with a dual diagnosis attend outside therapy and psychiatric appointments while in the program, and residents agree to random drug testing and a set length of stay. Court-ordered clients are considered, though people with severe psychiatric illness, a history of violent behavior, or medical needs requiring constant care are not a fit for this group living setting.
