About Shenandoah Community Health

Shenandoah Community Health is a nonprofit community health center that has served West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle and the Winchester, Virginia, area for 50 years, with a Behavioral Health office in Charles Town. Alongside primary care, women’s health, dental, and pharmacy services, they offer an office-based medication-assisted treatment program built around Suboxone. As a federally funded health center, they see patients regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. They accept most commercial insurance, offer a sliding fee discount to those who qualify, and provide interpretation for patients whose first language isn’t English.

The Suboxone program begins with an intake evaluation and a medication appointment. Participants then attend required weekly group therapy and monthly individual therapy sessions, and group requirements ease as a person stays compliant and abstains from other substances. Recovery coaches help with practical needs such as finding community resources, locating meetings, securing housing, and arranging transportation. The program also expects participants to attend mutual-support groups like AA, NA, or SMART Recovery and to complete random drug screens. A board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner oversees the program, and because it sits within a full medical home, patients can coordinate their recovery care with primary care and other health services.
