About SCO Family of Services
SCO Family of Services is a large New York nonprofit serving children, adults, and families across Long Island and New York City, with a behavioral health campus in nearby Dix Hills devoted to women and girls. Their work covers foster care, housing, education, developmental disability services, and behavioral health, with a holistic approach to mental health and substance use that tries to address the whole person. For addiction recovery, their main program is Morning Star, a set of home-like residences where women in recovery, including mothers with young children, work toward a stable, substance-free, and self-supporting life. Morning Star also offers parenting support, child care, and counseling, so women can focus on recovery without being separated from their kids.
The same Dix Hills campus houses the Madonna Heights programs, which serve adolescent girls and young women healing from trauma. Options range from a residential treatment facility offering the most intensive mental health care available outside a hospital, to a group residence and an outpatient family mental health clinic, with substance use referrals built into these services. For younger clients and families, SCO provides care management, community-based supports for children under 21, and High Fidelity Wraparound, a youth-guided, family-driven planning process for teens and young adults with complex mental health needs. They also run group residences for youth in foster care facing substance use, mental illness, or delinquency, as well as a Queens outreach center offering employment and support services to dual-diagnosed young adults.
