Sanford West Behavioral Health Campus in Marne, Michigan, about 12 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids, is the main campus of Sanford Behavioral Health, which treats substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and eating disorders. Rae and David Green founded Sanford in 2015 as a small women’s addiction program, and they have since grown into a psychiatrist-led organization that offers medication-assisted and evidence-based care. Their addiction continuum includes medical (sub-acute) detox, extended residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and virtual programming. Because every level is on one campus, clients can step down through treatment while staying with the same team.

Residential clients live on-site with 24-hour medical support, medication-assisted withdrawal management for substances such as opiates, benzodiazepines, and alcohol, and regular medical and psychiatric check-ups. Across levels of care, clinicians use cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, experiential therapy, and emotion-focused family therapy, alongside outdoor excursions and creative activities through their Real-Life Recovery programming. The partial hospitalization program provides full days of group, individual, and psychiatric care. The intensive outpatient program runs about ten hours a week, with morning and evening tracks and virtual options, while families can join therapy sessions, multi-family groups, family days, and virtual evening education, and Sanford is in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network.
