About Salvation Army Clitheroe Center
The Salvation Army Clitheroe Center in Anchorage, Alaska, is a substance use and dual diagnosis treatment program for adults struggling with alcohol and other drugs. Operated by The Salvation Army, a Christian organization, they aim to provide affordable, personalized care grounded in culturally relevant, evidence-based practices that support lasting recovery. Care is offered at two levels: residential treatment, with separate programs for men and women, and outpatient services that also serve as continuing care after a residential stay. All intakes and assessments go through the outpatient office, and people can refer themselves or be referred by local agencies and government organizations.
The residential program, based on a 42-bed campus near Point Woronzof, provides intermediate and long-term treatment for people whose lives have been seriously affected by substance use and mental health challenges. Each resident works with a treatment team to identify specific goals, which are then addressed through rehabilitation groups, individual counseling, and family counseling. The women’s program is built around the particular strengths and needs of women and includes mental health support for those whose symptoms make staying sober harder. On the outpatient side, they offer counseling, family services, and ADIS and MRT classes, and everyone who completes residential treatment is referred to their aftercare program; staff also conduct on-site assessments at local jails and hospitals when needed.
