About Saint Simons by the Sea
Saint Simons By-The-Sea is a 101-bed acute behavioral health hospital on Saint Simons Island in Georgia’s Golden Isles, treating substance use disorders and mental health conditions in adults, adolescents, and seniors. They have served families from Georgia, Florida, and the Carolinas since 1982, and their island setting offers patients privacy while they focus on getting well. Their levels of care include inpatient detox, acute inpatient rehab, crisis stabilization, and intensive outpatient treatment. They address addiction to alcohol, cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine, along with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, psychosis, and trauma.
Adults 18 and older with both addiction and a mental health condition can enter an inpatient dual diagnosis program led in part by a physician with decades of experience in addiction medicine, using a trauma-informed approach and short-term medications to ease withdrawal during detox. Treatment combines dialectical behavior therapy, a 12-step framework, and group and family sessions, plus recreational therapy such as art, yoga, sports, and pet therapy. Their psychiatric units also draw on cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and mindfulness, and every stay ends with a discharge plan that connects patients to outpatient providers. Separate tracks serve women through the Harmony program and young people through adolescent mental health and substance use programs, and confidential intake assessments are offered at no cost around the clock, with walk-ins welcome.
