About Sacramento Recovery House Inc
Sacramento Recovery House Inc is a nonprofit in Sacramento, California, that runs social model residential recovery homes for adults working through substance use and co-occurring disorders. They operate two separate gender-specific houses in a residential neighborhood: Sacramento Recovery House, a 17-bed home for men founded in 1964, and Gateway House for Women, established in 1968, both licensed to serve adults 18 and older. Their philosophy treats addiction as a treatable condition, and much of the guidance comes from staff who are in recovery themselves and bring personal experience to a trauma-informed, gender-responsive setting. Residents can choose structured live-in stays of 30, 60, or 90 days.
Daily life in both houses is built around the 12 Steps, and every resident attends at least one community-based 12 Step meeting each day. Alongside those meetings, residents take part in daily substance abuse education classes, individual and group sessions, and gatherings with sober community members who share the realities of building a new life. Assigned chores and house duties are part of the routine, helping residents build responsibility and the kind of friendships that can support long-term sobriety. Counseling and education are also offered to the important people in residents’ lives, with an emphasis on cultural competence.
