About River Valley Counseling Center

River Valley Counseling Center (RVCC) is a nonprofit community mental health agency that has served the Pioneer Valley since 1953, with outpatient clinics in Westfield, Holyoke, Chicopee, Easthampton, and Springfield. Licensed by the Massachusetts Bureau of Substance Addiction Services, they provide outpatient care for substance use, co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, and problem gambling. Their approach centers on clients taking an active role in choosing their own treatment path. They accept most insurance, including Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP, and offer sliding-scale fees based on income and family size so that inability to pay is not a barrier.

Through their Recovery Space program, clients ages 16 and up can combine individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy with peer recovery coaching and case management. Young people ages 12 to 24 can enroll in the Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA), a brief, evidence-based program of at least 10 to 14 sessions that includes a few sessions with a parent or caregiver, along with skill-building groups. Clinicians draw on cognitive behavioral therapy, neurofeedback, and mindfulness-informed methods such as ACT, and they pair these with SMART Recovery, Dharma Recovery, and traditional 12-step principles from AA, NA, Al-Anon, and Nar-Anon. Psychiatric evaluations, medication monitoring, tobacco cessation support, and certified gambling specialists are also available, with evening, weekend, and telehealth appointments for people juggling work or family commitments.
