About Resources For Human Development
Resources for Human Development (RHD) is a national nonprofit human services organization that began in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, in 1970 and now runs more than 115 programs across 12 states, including a wide range of addiction recovery services. They build person-centered, trauma-informed recovery plans that meet people at their own stage of readiness, and they have a long history of treating co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions. Their substance use care spans a licensed narcotic treatment program, outpatient counseling, halfway house and long-term residential programs, and community-based assertive community treatment teams. Because housing instability can derail recovery, they pair treatment with stable housing and “warm handoffs” between services so people don’t slip through the gaps.
Every RHD program serving people with substance use disorder also addresses opioid use. They support medication-assisted treatment, partner with prescribers of Suboxone (buprenorphine) and Vivitrol (naltrexone), and promote wider access to Narcan. The Montgomery County Recovery Center offers methadone alongside other medication options, while residential programs such as N.O.V.A. III and the Pennsylvania Institute for Community Living focus on integrated dual disorder treatment. Specialized settings include the Bucks County Halfway House for adult men, Family House NOW for women and their children, New Start II for chronically homeless men, and Morris Home, a gender-affirming residential program for transgender and nonbinary individuals. Life skills training runs through these programs to help people stay stable after they leave.
