About Resources For Human Development
Resources for Human Development (RHD) is a Philadelphia-based nonprofit human services organization that has run behavioral health, housing, and addiction recovery programs since 1970, now operating more than 115 programs across 12 states. Their addiction work centers on person-directed recovery plans that meet people at their stage of readiness, with a long history of treating co-occurring substance use and mental illness. Their recovery services include a halfway house for adult men, long-term residential programs, community rehabilitation residences, a licensed narcotic treatment program, and Assertive Community Treatment teams. They also emphasize warm handoffs between services and stable housing so that people do not lose momentum between steps of care.
Opioid use disorder is a focus across all of RHD’s substance use programs, which use medication-assisted treatment and work with prescribers of buprenorphine (Suboxone) and naltrexone (Vivitrol). Their Montgomery County Recovery Center also offers methadone, and their programs work to expand access to Narcan for overdose reversal. Several programs serve specific groups, including Family House NOW for women with co-occurring disorders and their children, Morris Home for transgender and nonbinary individuals, New Start II for chronically homeless men, and La Casa for young adults ages 18 to 24. Care is trauma-informed, some programs use the integrated dual disorder treatment model, and life skills training and peer support from staff with lived experience are woven into recovery.
