About Regis House

Regis House is a nonprofit community mental health counseling agency in Miami, Florida, offering mental health, family support, and substance abuse services to people across South Florida. Father Francisco Perez-Lerena founded them in 1984, during the height of Miami’s crack cocaine and heroin crisis, after their first client struggled to find a local drug treatment program willing to admit him. That origin still shapes their focus on people who might otherwise go without care, including immigrants, low-income families, teenagers, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Their counseling work centers on substance abuse counseling alongside broader mental health support.

Care is delivered through individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy sessions led by a small team of therapists and interns. Beyond counseling, they offer after-school care and run the Healthy Outreach Program (HOP) in partnership with Florida’s Department of Children and Families. Through HOP, bilingual staff help community members complete applications for SNAP, Medicaid, and Temporary Cash Assistance at no charge, by appointment only. For families dealing with addiction, this pairing of counseling and practical help with basic needs can ease some of the financial pressures that often come with recovery.
