About Recovery Consultants of Atlanta Inc
Recovery Consultants of Atlanta is a nonprofit community health center serving the Tucker and Decatur areas of Georgia, offering outpatient substance use treatment alongside primary medical care, behavioral health, and HIV prevention services. They were founded in 1999 by members of metro Atlanta’s 12-Step and faith-based recovery communities and began with peer-led recovery support before adding addiction treatment. Today they are a CARF-accredited, federally funded health center. They aim to bring medical, mental health, and recovery services together in one place for people who might otherwise struggle to access care.
Their outpatient program treats substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions using a client-centered, trauma-informed approach. Care comes from a team of licensed therapists, certified addiction counselors, and peer support staff who use Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The curriculum draws on the Matrix Model and Seeking Safety, a structured approach for people dealing with both trauma or PTSD and substance use. Patients can also use on-site primary care, telepsychiatry, sexual health services, and a mobile medical unit, which makes it easier to address physical and mental health alongside recovery.
