About Rappahannock Area Comm Servs Board
Rappahannock Area Community Services Board (RACSB) is the community services board for Ruther Glen and the rest of Caroline County, as well as Fredericksburg and the counties of King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford. They offer mental health, substance use, developmental disability, early intervention, and prevention services, with an emphasis on recovery, dignity, and involving families in care. For addiction, they provide outpatient Office-Based Opioid Treatment, a Mobile Recovery Unit that brings opioid use disorder treatment into the community, and 24/7 emergency services for crises. No one is turned away for inability to pay, and a sliding fee scale based on household size and income is available.
Their opioid treatment program, running since 2017, pairs medication that eases withdrawal and reduces cravings with individual or group counseling, peer support, and case management. Care starts with an assessment of clinical, psychosocial, and physical health needs, followed by care coordination, prescription monitoring, medical services, and referrals to other community resources. Families are brought into the process, and both participants and loved ones can take REVIVE! training to learn how to reverse an overdose, with each participant also receiving a dose of naloxone. For people with serious mental illness who struggle with traditional services, an Assertive Community Treatment team that includes substance use and vocational specialists, nurses, a psychiatrist, and a peer specialist offers around-the-clock, home-based support focused on medications, housing, employment, and daily living skills.
