About Promesa Behavioral Health

Promesa Behavioral Health is a Fresno, California nonprofit that serves youth, adults, and families through foster care, adoption, youth residential, and transitional housing programs, along with an outpatient substance use disorder program. Their addiction services follow an ASAM Level 1.0 Outpatient Drug Free model, aimed at stabilizing people with a substance use diagnosis and supporting long-term abstinence from alcohol and drugs. They treat adolescents ages 12 to 17 and adults, welcome male, female, and LGBTQ clients, and offer care both in person and through telehealth. Drug Medi-Cal is accepted as payment in full, and Fresno County contracts cover youth and adults who don’t qualify for Medi-Cal.

Counseling draws on Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, relapse prevention, trauma-informed care, and psychoeducation, delivered through individual and group sessions. Each client moves through screening, assessment, and a personalized treatment plan, with case management, recovery support, crisis and collateral services, random drug testing, discharge planning, and follow-up built in. Enrollment is open-entry with no waitlist, Spanish-speaking services are available, and referrals come from individuals, parents, schools, drug court, and social services. Mental health or medical needs beyond outpatient substance use care are handled through referrals to outside providers.
