About Positive Recovery Services

Positive Recovery Services is an outpatient substance use counseling center based in Germantown, Maryland, with additional offices in Wheaton and Fairfax, Virginia. They serve adults across Maryland who are dealing with alcohol or drug problems, offering outpatient groups, intensive outpatient treatment (IOP), and DUI and DWI classes. Their focus is on helping clients build the skills to live without the substances causing harm in their lives, and they aim to treat everyone with dignity and respect. They accept Maryland Medicaid, offer services in Spanish, and do not treat anyone under 18.

Care begins with a biopsychosocial assessment by a licensed counselor that looks at substance use, physical and mental health, legal and financial issues, trauma, family, and work or school needs. From there, each client and counselor build an individualized plan that blends education, processing, and relapse prevention, with progress tracked through attendance, participation, and urinalysis. The standard outpatient program runs about 26 weeks with up to nine hours a week of group and individual counseling, and family members can join individual sessions when the client asks. Groups meet mornings, afternoons, and evenings seven days a week, sessions are available by secure Zoom for those who can’t come in, and they can provide court letters, progress reports to referral sources, laptop rentals, and referrals for aftercare, medical, or mental health needs.
