About Pioneer Recovery Center
Pioneer Recovery Center is a women-only residential addiction treatment program in Cloquet, Minnesota, about 20 minutes from Duluth. Since opening in 2009 as a 10-bed program, they have grown into a 22-bed facility built around trauma- and attachment-informed care for alcohol use disorder, drug dependency, and polysubstance addiction, along with co-occurring conditions such as anxiety and depression. They offer two residential levels: ASAM 3.5 high-intensity treatment with about 30 hours of clinical services per week, and ASAM 3.1 low-intensity treatment with 15 or 5 hours weekly for women who need structure but less intensive support. Stays start at 30 days and can extend to 60 or 90 days when clinically appropriate, and they accept Minnesota Medicaid, the Behavioral Health Fund, and most major insurance plans.
Care combines individual therapy that explores the history behind substance use with women-only group sessions, family counseling, and ongoing mental health support. Groups draw on established curricula, including A Woman’s Way through the Twelve Steps, Circle of Security for strengthening parent-child attachment, and Connections for building resilience to shame. Women stabilized on methadone or other medications for addiction can continue their regimen through coordination with their MAT provider, and pregnant women are welcome to stay through delivery and after birth. Because medical detox is handled by partner facilities, they can pre-admit women who are still in detox, and discharge planning covers parenting, financial stability, housing referrals, family reunification, and community support connections.
