About Peninsula Behavioral Health
Peninsula Behavioral Health is a nonprofit community behavioral health agency in Port Angeles, Washington, with a second office in Sequim, and they have served Clallam County since 1971. They focus mainly on mental health care, along with treatment for substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions, for adults, youth, and families. They believe cost shouldn’t keep anyone from care, so they treat people whether or not they can pay and rely on donors to help cover uninsured and underinsured clients. For addiction, they offer two outpatient levels of care: Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and standard Outpatient (OP).
Their substance use program follows a harm reduction, low-barrier model. There are no waiting lists, no further eligibility requirements once a diagnosis is made, and attendance is flexible, with progress measured by improvement rather than strict rules. Licensed Substance Use Disorder Professionals provide assessment, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, relapse prevention, and education for patients and families about addiction as a disease, while Peer Support Specialists draw on their own recovery to help clients set goals and build coping skills. Care can also include case management, primary medical care, psychiatric evaluation, medication management through an onsite pharmacy, and housing support from their Community Support Services team. Families with younger members can turn to a dedicated Youth Services Center, which offers art, play, and group therapy, as well as Washington’s Wraparound Intensive Services (WISe) program for Medicaid-eligible youth with complex needs.
