About Pawnee Mental Health Services

Pawnee Mental Health Services is a community mental health center serving a 10-county region of north-central Kansas, including an office in Clay Center, with a dedicated recovery program for adults and adolescents struggling with substance use. They treat substance use on its own as well as alongside co-occurring mental health conditions. Care levels include standard outpatient treatment, a 4–6 week intensive outpatient program, non-medical social detox, and a sober living house for men. A Same Day Access Walk-In Clinic lets people start an intake without a referral or appointment, and they serve everyone regardless of ability to pay, offering a sliding fee scale and accepting Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance.

Therapy draws on Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and a whole-person approach that covers emotional regulation, social skills, goal setting, and relapse prevention. The intensive outpatient track involves more than 10 hours of therapy per week before clients step down to individual and group outpatient care. Social detox beds offer adults round-the-clock staff support, withdrawal monitoring, and discharge planning for people who don’t need medical intervention, while the Discovery Sober Living House gives men free housing with case management, therapy, psychiatric medication management, and peer support. They also accept court, probation, and DCF referrals and provide an 8-hour Alcohol and Drug Information School, along with a Prior Service Program offering behavioral health support to former service members and their families.
