About Pathways to a Better Life
Pathways to a Better Life is a state-licensed alcohol and drug treatment center in Kiel, Wisconsin, offering a full continuum of care. Their services start with medically monitored residential detox and continue through residential treatment, day treatment, intensive outpatient, and sober living. Their co-ed adult residential program sits on 38 wooded acres in two eight-bed homes, and they treat co-occurring mental health conditions through a dual diagnosis approach. Their care is trauma-informed and holistic, addressing physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs, and they are expanding to serve adolescents at a separate campus in Waldo.
Detox runs around the clock with oversight from a registered nurse and a supervising physician, and counselors help each person decide on the right next level of care. Pathways is licensed for both high- and low-intensity residential treatment, and length of stay depends on progress rather than a fixed 28 days, averaging about 45 days. Residents receive individualized plans that the clinical team reviews weekly, along with evidence-based therapy, relapse prevention, life skills work, and an aftercare plan before discharge. After residential care, clients can step down to adult day treatment on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with transportation from the men’s and women’s sober living homes, and later move to IOP, ongoing individual sessions, weekly Saturday family groups, and a monthly alumni group.
